A one day course where you will learn the basics of splitting and shaping greenwood to make spoons. Using various tools including knives and small axes, this highly rewarding greenwood craft is suitable for complete novices and those with experience.

Useful and beautiful kitchen utensils must be supremely functional, hygienic and fit comfortably in the hand. What better way to ensure all three criteria than to make your own spoon and, if time allows, try making a spatula too!

The course introduces students to greenwood craft and the basic skill required to make and take away a spoon or spatula on the day.

The course covers:

  • Health and Safety in the craft area
  • Timber selection and evaluation
  • Tool selection and use
  • Wood design
  • Carving techniques
  • Surface treatment and finishing

Arrive: 15 minutes prior to a 9.30am start
Depart: 4pm, although this is approximate.

What to bring: work clothes, pen and notebook, packed lunch

All adult courses are open to 16 year olds and over.

What’s included in the price?

All timber and tool use is included. Refreshments and biscuits throughout the day but please bring a packed lunch. Wear warm, outdoor clothing as the course will take place outdoors.
