Children must be accompanied by an adult

Our woodland crafts team have created shavehorses and hand tools specifically for children and young people to use under supervision in our woodland craft areas as part of these fantastic new family workshops.

A half day family course introducing children and their accompanying adult to the correct and safe use of a range of green woodworking tools including hand drills, saws, shave horses whittling and draw knives.

This course is suitable for complete novices and those with some experience.

The course introduces students to greenwood craft and the basic skill required to make and take away a range of items made using taught techniques. These may include coat hooks, mallets, small play items and or useful household items dependent upon age range and level of ability.

Please note adults are required to accompany/assist where necessary their children at all times and must ensure that they behave appropriately and follow the health and safety and safe working practices shown to them.

This course covers:

  • Health and Safety in the craft area
  • Tool selection and use
  • Shaping techniques
  • Surface treatment and finishing

Please let us know if you have any specific requirements or needs.

All materials and tool use are provided for you on the day. Please bring a water bottle, notebook and pen and wear suitable clothes for working outdoors.
