Coracle making [1 day Masterclass]
The coracle, along with the log dugout, is among the earliest of waterborne vessels.
Originally constructed of willow, hazel and hide they represent an ingenious and elegant means of water transport. Capable of negotiating rapids and shallows they were also light enough to carry making them a remarkably useful means of transport. Apart from their great utility they are also beautiful objects as they draw together a number of traditional wood-based and associated crafts.
In this course, you will learn about the history of woven vessel design and participate in the construction of a coracle vessel. You will explore all aspects from wood selection to construction and will leave with your own coracle construction materials to allow you to develop your own vessel.
